should AI be used for writing?

Now, I’m not ashamed to say that I use AI to proofread my blog posts. While I enjoy writing, my spelling, grammar, and even basic sentence structure are not always on par. However, most AI models also provide a function where you can request that it write a story in a specific genre or about a specific topic for you.

If you were to take advantage of this feature and then publish said book/short story, or whatever the case may be, are there legal ramifications for that? Are there copyright laws or plagiarism rules being broken? If I had the idea, but an AI model assisted me in putting it into words, should I feel guilty about that? Should I feel the need to announce it beforehand in case the issue gets raised?

Take content creators, for example. Some of the content made is faked or staged for views, with no warning given to state so. Is the concept then not the same?

Now let’s take my best buddy Steve Jobs. He didn’t do any of the coding, hardware, or building of the Apple machines. He just had the idea. If you just had the idea, and an AI model assisted you in making that idea a reality, whether fully or partially, is that a problem? Is an AI model no different than a ghostwriter? Should we be including it in our acknowledgments at the end of our novels?

AI art gets a lot of hate for supposedly taking pieces of art from other artists without permission. Does AI writing do the same? Would it receive the same hate? If AI artists can sell their artwork, would it be an issue for AI writers to do the same? Bearing in mind, AI writing, like AI art, wouldn’t happen in seconds. I’m sure there’d be a lot of work and hours spent finessing the actual piece. Does that work then deem acceptable to profit from?

Now, one may argue that an author or an artist not using AI would take longer to do the work. But if you were to think of how many jobs were made easier and faster due to technology, should this be any different? Will this someday be the new norm?

So many questions. I’d be interested in hearing your thoughts in the comments. Until next time.
