“But you still owe me one more kiss, and until I collect it, you’re mine, and I do not like to share.”
The story follows a young woman named Evangeline Fox who makes a deal with the Prince of Hearts to stop the wedding of the love of her life to another. However, the Prince’s magic always comes with a cost, and Evangeline soon realizes she must complete a dangerous and impossible task. Along the way, she discovers secrets about her own past and learns to trust the enigmatic Jacks.
This book is my book club’s pick for this month, and I listened to it on audio in about a week while playing Disney Dreamlight Valley, and I was enthralled. Contrary to the previous book I read, this one had me on the edge of my seat.
I’ve never read Stephanie Garber before, after trying Caraval once or twice, but never really getting into it. I haven’t heard great things of it, however, so I don’t think I’ll read it out of fear of it ruining this book for me.
Jacks has become one of my new favourite characters. In saying that, the female main character progressively got more and more on my nerves. She made dumb decisions and whenever Jacks says, “little fox, no,” Evangeline goes, “LITTLE FOX, YES!”
I immediately started the second book because I cannot wait for Jacks and Eva’s relationship to go further. And I’m secretly praying there will be some spice in the near future.
I give it a 4/5.
If you’ve read this book, let me know what you thought.
