Books have a unique ability to touch our hearts, expand our minds, and transport us to different worlds. Some books leave a lasting impact, resonating with us long after we’ve turned the final page. In this blog post, I want to share six books that I’ve read over the years, each of which has left an indelible mark on my soul. These books span different genres and styles but share the common trait of offering profound insights and memorable experiences.
The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald
One of my favourite books of all time, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby” is a classic exploration of the American Dream and the emptiness that can lurk beneath the surface of wealth and glamour. Through the enigmatic Jay Gatsby and the eyes of narrator Nick Carraway, we delve into the world of excess and longing in the Roaring Twenties. This novel has left an enduring impression on my understanding of ambition, obsession, and the elusive nature of happiness. Also who doesn’t love the Roaring Twenties.

“To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee:
Harper Lee’s classic novel, “To Kill a Mockingbird,” is a masterpiece that addresses timeless issues of racial prejudice, moral growth, and the loss of innocence. Set in the American South during the 1930s, the story is narrated by Scout Finch, a young girl who learns important life lessons through her father’s defense of a black man wrongly accused of raping a white woman. This book powerfully explores themes of justice, empathy, and the complexities of human nature.

“The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck” by Mark Manson
Mark Manson’s “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck” offers a refreshing and brutally honest take on personal development and happiness. This is the only ‘self-help’ book I’ve read because it encourages readers to prioritize what truly matters and let go of societal expectations. Manson challenges conventional self-help advice. This book has taught me valuable lessons about embracing adversity, finding meaning in life’s challenges, and taking responsibility for my own happiness.

“The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak
Narrated by Death, “The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak is a beautifully written and emotionally resonant story set in Nazi Germany. It follows Liesel Meminger, a young girl who steals books to escape the horrors of the war. This book celebrates the power of words and literature to provide solace and hope even in the darkest of times. “The Book Thief” is a story that will continue to touch hearts and remind us of the resilience of the human spirit.

“The Catcher in the Rye” by J.D. Salinger
J.D. Salinger’s “The Catcher in the Rye” is a coming-of-age novel that captures the disillusionment and alienation felt by many young people. The protagonist, Holden Caulfield, is a complex character who grapples with the challenges of growing up and finding his place in the world. This book has a universal appeal and has resonated with generations of readers who have identified with Holden’s struggles and his search for authenticity.

“The Little Prince” by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry:
I will never not stop talking about this book. “The Little Prince” is a whimsical and profound novella that captivates readers of all ages. Through the adventures of the Little Prince and his encounters with various characters on different planets, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry imparts valuable lessons about the importance of imagination, friendship, and seeing the world through the eyes of a child. This timeless classic reminds us of the beauty of simplicity and the need to cherish the things that truly matter.

These six books have left an indelible mark on my heart and mind. They have challenged my thinking, stirred my emotions, and provided me with valuable insights into the human condition. Whether through their enduring themes, unforgettable characters, or beautiful prose, these books will stay with me forever, serving as a constant source of inspiration, reflection, and wisdom. If you haven’t read them yet, I highly recommend adding them to your reading list; you won’t be disappointed.
