As December unfolds with its crisp winter air and festive spirit, it’s the perfect time to create memories that will warm our hearts for years to come. This December, I’ve crafted a bucket list that blends the joy of seasonal activities with the excitement of celebrating special occasions. From the sweet aroma of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies to the thrill of solving mysteries at a Christmas-themed murder mystery party, this month promises to be filled with laughter, love, and festive cheer.

Baking Chocolate Chip Cookies
There’s something magical about the scent of cookies wafting through the house, especially during the holiday season. One item on my December bucket list is to spend a cozy afternoon in the kitchen with my husband, whipping up a batch of classic chocolate chip cookies. From measuring out the ingredients to the shared anticipation as they bake to golden perfection, this activity is sure to be a sweet start to the holiday season.
Tips for a Perfect Cookie Bake-off:
- Use high-quality ingredients for a rich flavour.
- Experiment with different types of chocolate chips for a personalized touch.
- Don’t forget to enjoy a warm cookie straight from the oven with a glass of milk!
Digital Detox Day
In the midst of holiday preparations, I’ve carved out a day for a digital detox. No emails, no social media – just a day to immerse myself in the simple pleasures of life, reconnect with nature, and enjoy the present moment.
Stargazing Night
December nights are perfect for stargazing, and I’ve marked a night on my calendar to marvel at the celestial wonders above. With a warm blanket and a steaming mug of herbal tea, I’ll embrace the quiet beauty of the night sky.
Cozy Reading Nights
I plan to spend quiet evenings with a cup of hot chocolate, nestled by the fireplace, and engrossed in a good Christmas read. There’s nothing quite like the warmth of a holiday story to set the mood for the season.
Litchi Picking Adventure
Embracing the spirit of the season, the December bucket list includes a visit to a litchi orchard for a fun-filled day of fruit picking. The vibrant red and green hues of litchis create a picturesque setting, making it an ideal activity for memorable moments. The joy of plucking fresh litchis straight from the trees adds a delightful twist to the traditional holiday festivities.
Tips for a Successful Litchi Picking Day:
- Check with local orchards for the best picking times.
- Bring a sturdy basket to carry your litchi harvest, if the farm doesn’t provide you with containers.
- Enjoy the day with friends and family, making it a memorable outing.
Book Club Christmas Party
One of the highlights of my December is undoubtedly the book club Christmas party. Gathering with fellow book dragons to celebrate both literature and the holiday spirit promises to be a joyous occasion. To make the party extra special, we’ve decided to do a book club Secret Santa and I’m so excited. We’ll also indulge in holiday-themed snacks, with each person bringing their own snack board, creating an atmosphere of camaraderie and warmth. The book club Christmas party is not just an opportunity to discuss literature but also a chance to forge deeper connections with fellow members outside the pages of our favourite novels.
Cozy Nights In Watching Christmas Movies
No December is complete without indulging in the time-honoured tradition of watching classic Christmas movies. Whether it’s a heartwarming tale of love and redemption or a whimsical animated adventure, a movie night is the perfect way to unwind and revel in the festive atmosphere. Snuggling under blankets with loved ones while sipping on hot chocolate with marshmallows creates an enchanting experience that captures the essence of the season.
Must-Watch Christmas Movies (aka my favourites):
- “Love Actually”
- “The Holiday”
- “Home Alone”
- “The Polar Express”
- “A Christmas Carol”
Acts of Kindness
December provides an excellent opportunity to spread joy and goodwill. This year I’ll be volunteering for the Hillcrest Aids Centre at their gift wrapping station.
Christmas-Themed Murder Mystery Party
To add a touch of intrigue to the festivities, my December bucket list includes a murder mystery party – which has the added bonus of being Christmas-themed! This unique and interactive celebration will not only mark Jeremy’s cousin’s 30th birthday but also engage guests in a thrilling evening of sleuthing and laughter. I imagine there will be festive decorations and imaginative costumes and general holiday fun all-round.
Tips for Hosting a Christmas Murder Mystery Party:
- Choose a theme that complements the holiday season.
- Encourage guests to dress in character for added immersion.
- Plan clues and plot twists for an engaging and entertaining experience.
Reflection and Goal-Setting
As the year concludes, my bucket list includes intentional reflection and goal-setting. Taking a moment to review the past year’s accomplishments, challenges, and growth allows for a mindful transition into the new year. Setting realistic and inspiring goals for the upcoming months creates a sense of purpose and excitement for what lies ahead.
Embracing the festive spirit with loved ones, these activities are a delightful way to celebrate the season and cherish the joy that December brings. As the year draws to a close, may these moments of togetherness and merriment serve as a fitting conclusion to a year filled with ups and downs. Cheers to a December filled with love, laughter, and the magic of the holidays!
