movie review: the threesome (2025)

⭐⭐⭐✨

What works:

👶🏻Zoey Deutch truly carries the film, giving Olivia layers of tough exterior and hidden vulnerability.
👶🏻The chemistry between the trio is real. These aren’t just caricatures. Their messiness feels lived-in.
👶🏻It takes risks: the film doesn’t shy away from the awkward, painful, and deeply human consequences of impulsive actions.
👶🏻The tone is indie, grounded, and sometimes raw, balancing humour with emotional weight.

What doesn’t work:

💔The tonal balance is hit-or-miss in places; comedy and drama sometimes clash.
💔Some plot points stretch believability, particularly the emotional turns and timing of revelations.
💔Ruby Cruz’s Jenny, while strong, doesn’t get quite as much narrative space or development as Olivia. And that’s definitely not my indirect way of saying Ruby Cruz should have gotten more screen time 😉

Overall, The Threesome isn’t perfect, but it’s an earnest, messy, sometimes heartbreaking take on what happens when a fantasy collides with real life. Worth a watch, especially for the cast and emotional depth.
